At Miles Chiropractic, Dr. Miles utilizes IASTM as an additional accessory to help treat patients in addition to chiropractic adjustments. She uses small stainless steel instruments that have various curves to help facilitate muscle issues such as scar tissue and helps to break them up and create better blood flow to those areas. This is achieved by brushing or rubbing the affected muscle tissue area against the grain to promote healing and increase circulation. A lot of times Dr. Miles will also work on additional areas near the “problem” that are connected by the fascia tissue planes.
An example would be a patient with calf pain. Dr. Miles can also treat the hamstrings as well as the arch area of the foot, since plantar fasciitis can be a problem in addition to calf pain. This example, along with low back, shoulder, neck, elbow, wrist, and other soft tissue injuries can all greatly benefit from IASTM combined with chiropractic care.
